It was indeed a pleasant sight. Children, boys and girls dressed in their best, wearing ID cards, holding files and pens walking fast the gates of “Don Bosco Ongole” institute. They were the child Home Ministers from 60 children’s Parliaments of Prakasam District. Soon they took their seats at the conference hall. The chief guest Mr. G.Ramgopal (Lokadalat Judge Prakasam Dt.) and other guests were soon invited to the dais. The function started with the lighting of the lamb. The home ministers held up lighted candles and all sang loudly “We shall overcome, we shall overcome some day”
For years the students of Primary school sat on the floor learning the Telugu alphabets in the most traditional way – writing over and over again over a letter the teacher wrote on the child’s slate. It was killing the creativity of the child. Every one submitted to the status co. But Mr. A. Kameshu, the education minister of children’s parliament of N.Kothapally village (Katrenikona Mandal I East Godavari Dt. Andhra Pradesh) thought that the children should sit on benches. He made this suggestion in the meeting of the Children’s Parliament on 29-4-2011.
It was the 3rd August 2011. The Children parliament at Ramaswamythota (Katrenikona Mandal, East Godavari Dt. Andhra Pradesh) is in full session. During the annual summer holidays some of the members who had gone to their relative’s houses have returned to the village. The Mandal Praja Paishat Primary School in Ramaswamythota has reopened. The education Minister, Ms. Prabharsha Sivani, has a report about this school. She says that the MPP school building is not painted, it is looking very shabby.
