Support a Child

"Abolition of Poverty" is slogan of the Government and the NGOs. "Bosco Seva Kendra" (BSK) has selected "micro finance" through Mutually aided Cooperative societies (MACS) as one of the means for reducing poverty. The fact that more than 30% of the population is not approaching the banks for their credit needs (because they have no security to offer) reveals the extend of poverty. The poor have emergency credit needs. The only source left for them is the money lender whose interest rates (24%-60%) can make them sink into the quagmire of poverty. Timely credit will save this group from the clutches of the money lender.

Do children have opinions?

This question was thoroughly discussed at the two day training organized at Singh Nagar Vijayawada for the sisters of St Ann's and their staff working with children. Mr. Job.P.J and Mr. Nageswararao from Bosco Seva Kendra were the trainers for the two day programme on the 22nd and 23rd January 2013. Twenty six women staff including eight sisters participated in this training. The training was keenly appreciated and well understood as the trainees voluntarily came forward and resolved to form 13 Children's Parliaments at the closing of the training.

Developing a Good MAC Society

Written by

Self help groups (SHGs) are well known in Andhra Pradesh. The state has the largest number of SHGs and their savings deposited in the banks are land marks in the state. The Government has linked the SHGs to the banks for giving loans to the women members. This has turned out to be a good poverty alleviation programme.

Bosco Seva Kendra is supplementing this work in its area of operation. BSK is federating the SHGs into "Mutually Aided Cooperative" societies (MACs) a registered body. The By-laws of the MACs follow a democratic system of governance. The members elect 9 board of directors who takes over the management of the society. The day to day affaires of the society are carried out by paid staff appointed by the BOD. BSK is an out side agency (NGO) offering financial support to the MACs.
