Print
and electronic media play vital role in dissemination of information
about developmental activities and the issues of concern to the
stakeholders. BSK enlists support of media towards sensitizing the
stakeholders on the need for capacity building of the poor and marginalized
of the society by providing various types of inputs and make them
ready to face the changing labour market.
Media
coverage on BSK activities educates and informs the various organizations,
who are in the line of similar activity and the needy people about
the human face approach of the Salesians. Media has been very active
in covering the issues of various developmental works carried out
in different parts of the world. It also focused on the BSK's efforts
at facilitating alternative livelihoods to the poor and marginalized
youth at various levels. Enlisting support of media in informing
the stakeholders with regard to the BSK efforts is part of the communication
strategy to ensure development of the poor, the children, the youth,
the women, the marginalized, Dalit, the un-employed, the landless,
the differently abled and different categories of people in need
of our care and attention.
Due
to this vital role played by media, there are several cases of successful
individuals who have found meaningful niche for their alternative
livelihoods. Some have succeeded in starting own business small
enterprises. Some have gone into new jobs. A few have negotiated
the new realities through collective effort by forming into a group.
Some have located themselves in traditional and familiar areas of
work. A few have gone sea change in occupational shift from simple
manual work to IT services.
It
is one field that is less understood or documented. BSK facilitates
alternative livelihoods of poor and margilalized youth among the
society through new skills, upgradation of skills, counselling for
self employment and related services. |
